The brief that was set, required the cover design to ‘reflect the books status as one of the great modern political allegories of our time’. Drawing upon Constructivist and Futurist influences, I decided to address this project to convey a dark and crude impression of the Communist society the novel suggests.
I wanted to achieve a heirachy within the image, setting the animals on stages, to give it a theatrical appearance. Furthermore, I wanted to create movement, using repetitive animal motifs to demonstrate the mechanical lifelessness of Communist society.
